IBM has started a consulting service to help government agencies analyze their environmental impact, boost energy efficiency and reduce global warming activities.



As Global warming is the most important issue to look out, IBM has decided to help the government. Hence, IBM has introduced the first consulting service designed to analyze energy and water use, assess waste management, evaluate overall environmental impact and develop improvement strategies. The IBM Public Sector Energy and Environment Diagnostic can help governments better understand their overall performance on environmental issues, identify improvements that can increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact including greenhouse gas emissions, and help ensure public institutions meet their own rising environmental standards.

This must be really very helpful for the government to take some preventive measures. This diagnostic is to help US federal agencies comply with current requirements for broad improvements in efficiency and economy for all environmental, energy and transportation management operations. Its a good news that Microsoft offers discounts on Softwares. Microsoft has cut the price of leasing software by as much as 25 percent. Companies can sign up for discounts on SQL Server, SharePoint, and other Microsoft software, or two bundles of client-access licenses, according to notices posted on the Microsoft Incentives Web site.

One special promotion is "Simplify and Save," which offers savings of 15 percent for those who consolidate at least two existing license agreements into an Open Value agreement. Microsoft said the discount will run for the entire length of a three-year license deal.



Another offer is for between 15 percent and 25 percent off the price of the license and the Software Assurance costs of running Exchange Server, Office Communications Server, SQL Server, Office SharePoint Server, Visual Studio, Office Project, and other Microsoft software.

The cuts are similar to those that Microsoft has made on the cost of licensing specific products. The Microsoft Office Project Assurance Pack's price has been cut by 25 percent, and Microsoft Project Server 2007 has seen a similar price fall.

According to one analyst, Microsoft does not communicate enough people, when it comes about these special offers. "This is good news for users but Microsoft should be shouting about offers like this," said Tony Lock, analyst with Freeform Dynamics. "Software Assurance is not widely recognized and deals like this, which seems pretty much across the board of Microsoft software, should be better known."

Lock said that, while Microsoft has good market share, it is "not nearly as good as it could or should be, given offers like this."

News is spreading like fire that the Palm Pre is the right gadget to beat the iPhone and thus it has been dubbed the "iPhone killer". More, good news for Palm Pre is that it has topped the list of the 100 hottest gadgets on the planet compiled by gadget magazine T3.

Palm Pre was first unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. The device runs on new software called Web OS, which lets users directly connect to information stored on the Internet, known as the cloud, rather than through a desktop PC.

The smartphone comes with a slide-out keyboard, 8GB of storage capacity, and a multi-touch 3.1 inch color screen.

The second place goes to the Sony X-Series Walkman, closely followed by Nokia N97 phone with a slide out keyboard taking the third position.

However, not a single Apple gadget made the top ten, with the iPhone 3G being 14th on the list.

It can also collect information about the location of the thief in case it is being used to access Internet so that police can be alerted.

Owners must report their laptop missing by logging on to a website, which sends a message to the computer, triggering on-screen messages to the thief or voice alerts or both.

A stunning new photo taken by astronomers shows a Big Brother-style cosmic eye, nicknamed the “Eye of God”, staring down from space. The photo was taken with a huge telescope at the European Southern Observatory, on a mountain top at La Silla in Chile.

The Helix nebula is a sun-like star and is in its final explosion stage before it retires into a white dwarf.

According to a report in New Scientist, the amazing object is actually a shell of gas and dust that has been blown off by a faint central star. Our own solar system will meet a similar fate five billion years in the future.

Helix nebula is about 700 light years away in the constellation of Aquarius.

It has been studied in much more detail than other planetary nebulae due to its relatively close proximity to Earth.

Although the shape of the Helix resembles a doughnut, scientists believe it consists of at least two separate discs with outer rings and filaments.

The main ring is about two light years across, which equates to about half the distance between the Sun and its nearest star.

A sixteen year old teenage girl from UK has become victim of doing the above mistake and was fired from her job for calling it 'boring' on Facebook.

Kimberley Swann had been working for Ivell Marketing and Logistics Limited in Clacton, Essex, as an office administrator. She was sacked from her job with "immediate effect" after her employer found out that she has posted a negative comment on Facebook.

Boss Steve Ivell told Sky News Online that "Miss Swann posted comments about her job and invited other staff members to read them. Her display of disrespect and dissatisfaction undermined the relationship and made (her job) untenable. We thought that Miss Swann's best interests would be served by working for a company that would more suit her expectations."

Kimberley told reporters that "They were just being nosey, going through everything. I think it is really sad, it makes them look stupid that they are going to be so petty."
