Nowadays Google has become the best friend for all the people. Not only the youngsters, even the elderly people frequently use Google to get the information that they need in hand. But have you ever thought Googling will cause a damage to the planet that we are living? Yes, it does. Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate the same amount of harmful carbon dioxide as boiling an electric kettle for a cup of tea, according to new research quoted today at Harvard University, London. As you, the Google can also be added to the list.

Everytime when a search is done in Google it evolves, seven grams of CO2 whereas an electric kettle generates about 15 gm. So when two Google searches are done at the same time then it generates almost the same amount of harmful CO2. But sources says that Google is “secretive” about its energy consumption and carbon footprint, and refuses to divulge the locations of its data centers. The Google system, which sends search queries to several competing servers that may be thousands of miles apart, “minimizes delays but raises energy consumption”.

Researchers says that “A Google search has a definite environmental impact”. Wissner-Gross has submitted his research for publication by the US Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and has set up a website www.CO2stats.com. A recent study states that global IT industry generates as much greenhouse gas - which contribute to global warming - as the airlines industry.

Since 200 million internet searches are estimated globally daily, effective alarm should be raised on this issue considering the the electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions caused by computers and the internet is provoking concern

Google says that They are the most efficient of all internet search providers. Google is very efficient to make it searches faster through lot of extra capacity that burns energy. So some preventive measures has to be taken in order to safeguard out Earth.

This research hasn't been conclusive, Google claims that they two searches is less than 1 gm or carbon; in addition, Google spends a substantial amount of money to help correct this problem.
