Apple's iPhone 3G topped the sales charts in the third quarter displacing Motorola's Razr as the most purchased handset among consumers.

Motorola's Razr has been the No. 1 ranked handset after its launch in 2004. Currently, the Razr V3 is in second place behind the iPhone 3G.

The newer version of the iPhone is more popular than the older version which did not support 3G network. The iPhone became so popular because of its sleek button-less design and advanced Web surfing capabilities.

One of the main reason for the new iPhone to become popular is likely the price at which it is being offered. AT&T, the exclusive carrier in the U.S. for the iPhone, is offering it for $200 with a two-year contract.
