Rumors are going on that Microsoft might rebrand its online search engine, Windows Live Search under the name Kumo by early 2009. According to LiveSide, Kumo.com is now registered under Microsoft and is reportedly under the same name servers as SEARCH.LIVE.COM.

Kumo means “cloud” or “spider” in Japanese. Is Microsft hinting towards cloud computing? But, the concept of cloud computing is related to Internet applications and data storage systems like Google Docs. Could Kumo be the official name for something else? we don't know as of now, but will surely get an answer in the near future. However analysts point out that Microsoft’s third position in the search market is unlikely to be improved by just rebranding.

Latest reports suggests that Microsoft is focusing inwards and improving it’s own search offering rather than going out to acquire Yahoo.
