Last week, Bill Gates was in India and planned a sudden departure to leave India in a chartered aircraft from Jodhpur Airport.
But the airport, a strategic forward base of the Indian Air Force, is shut for operations after 4 pm as repair work is under way from mid-April and the runway lacks lighting facilities for night operations.
But the airport was kept open till 5.30PM so that Bill Gates flight could take off. But, it seems the flight was further delayed because the Bill Gates family had left some luggage back at hotel. The Microsoft founder along with his wife, father and two sisters were staying at Umaid Bhawan Palace.
By the time, the luggage arrived it was already 6.30PM and it became dark. Since, the runway didn't have proper lighting facilities, it had to be lit with hundreds of goosenecks for a safe takeoff.
Goosenecks are containers filled with kerosene and lit up with wicks, used sparingly today in case of emergency when lighting fails in an airbase.
Finally, the flight took off with hundreds of goosenecks to show the way.
