Ever wondered running two operating systems on a single mobile phone? But it has become reality, thanks to the iPhone Dev Team. They have successfully released their own draft version of iPhone Linux after reverse engineering the original Linux 2.6 kernel.
This draft version of iPhone Linux OS can run on your iPhone, iPhone 3G or iPod Touch. Being a draft version, many drivers are still missing, but it's enough that a real alternative operating system is running on the iPhone.
Some of the features which are currently supported include Framebuffer driver, Serial driver, Serial over USB driver, Interrupts, MMU, clock, etc.
The developers have also made a basic multi-boot front end known as OpeniBoot that lets users toggle between Apple's own operating system and an alternative platform.
The Accelerometer, Touchscreen, Write support for the NAND, Wireless networking, Sound and Baseband support are some of the features which do not currently have any software support.
