Many of you might know that currently Internet Explorer dominates the browser market with around 71% share. Firefox is fast catching up but still Internet Explorer is the number one position.

The reason behind this is simple. During 1990s, Netscape Navigator dominated the browser market in terms of usage, but it lost its ground to Internet Explorer by the late 1990s only because Microsoft pre-installed Internet Explorer in every copy of Windows that it sold.

Now, Google is also following the same strategy to gain share in browser market by shipping Google Chrome browser in the new PCs because they know that most of the users will use the browser which get shipped with their new PC.

According to Google’s Vice President of Product Management Sundar Pichai Chrome will come out of beta sometime in January at which point they would pursue distribution deals with various OEM’s. He also added that Mac and Linux versions of Chrome should be available by the first half of next year.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 final version is expected in market only by the first quarter of 2009, so this is the right time for Google to step in and strike, to gain the market share by securing pre-installation deals.

Lets wait and see whether pre-installation strategy will work for Google, the way it worked for Microsoft during late 1990s!!
